Nuage Filer

Nuage Filer

A virtual NAS that
replaces your legacy filer
Lower the load of your datacenter
and save budget on your data storage

Cloud Gateway

Cloud Gateway the heart of the Nuage Filer is an award-winning software turning any Cloud storage service compatible with Amazon S3 or Openstack API into a local volume.

Therefore, No API integration is required, data are stored on the Cloud, encrypted during transfers and can be replicated between multiple Clouds.

Your Cloud storage area works as a local filesystem, which can be exported to the network as a NAS through standards protocols like NFS or CIFS, enabling the transparent use of all the Cloud storage features without any modifications to existing applications or any vendor lockup.

Cloud Gateway

Enterprise class solutions

On top of the Cloud-Gateway “open-source” technological heart, “Nuage Filer” is an « all-in-one » enterprise class solution that integrates exclusive graphical and administration tools. Additional option exists to integrate storage provisioned through Orange sovereign Cloud in France (Cloudwatt) and other European Cloud partners in various countries in the near future.

WAN optimization

The Nuage Filer uses a lot of technical mechanisms to improve the user experience by reducing latency and speeding up transfers:

  • smart caching algorithms, in order to keep the often-used files locally;
  • constant monitoring of Cloud storage instances, to be able to choose the fastest one at any time;
  • HTTP-multiplexing and connection pooling, to avoid opening a TCP connection if possible;
  • compression, in case your bandwidth is the limiting factor.

In order to speed up the transfer, save bandwidth and storage costs, Cloud Gateway provides a compression filter based on the deflate algorithm allowing on-the-fly compression of files. Depending on the compression level and the data typology, the compression ratio can rise up to 99%.

Security

One of the key goals of the Nuage Filer is to protect your files. This means protecting them from becoming unreachable by using caching and mirroring, but also protecting them from external snooping, by using encryption at various levels.
In addition to protecting your data during the transfers to and from storage providers with SSL and TLS, the Nuage Filer can use a filter to encrypt your data before sending them to the storage provider, transparently decrypting them when they are later retrieved. That way, the storage provider himself has no way to access your data.
Two modes of operation are supported, Cipher Bloc Chaining and CTR Integer Counter Mode. Also, a non-exhaustive list of supported ciphers include the following algorithms:

  • Advanced Encryption Standard, a well-known NIST standard, supporting key sizes of 128, 192 and 256 bits;
  • Triple-DES, a well-known NIST standard, using a key size of 168 bits;
  • Camellia, a well-known Japanese cipher supporting key sizes of 128, 192 and 256 bits.

Security

Redundancy

The Nuage Filer could handle storage redundancy with data replication (mirroring) between several cloud storage providers, therefore reducing risks from temporary or extended service seizure from your chosen cloud storage provider, to a minimum.

For example, if your storage service is split between Orange/Cloudwatt Openstack service and Amazon S3, you would not be impacted should one of them experience a service interruption of several hours.

The active / passive mode from the Nuage Filer, linked with this mirroring feature from two separate Cloud storage providers offers an architecture without a point of failure.

Cost killing

The Nuage Filer package that comes along with data storage provisioned from our partner Orange - Cloudwatt offers a strong opportunity of cutting down storage costs massively.

Thanks to our exclusive business model, the Nuage Filer comes with different storage capacities and could be upgraded or downgraded from one day to another without commitment: this means a filer that grows with your needs.

There is no hidden costs, the Nuage Filer cost is solely based on its capacity.
Bandwidth consumption, or I/Os are not taken into consideration: the means a storage budget with no surprises, 100% under control.
